The assembly says yes to the hiring of a team of lumberjacks against the emergency. President Vecellio: “We are determined to defend our territory from the parasite”

AURONZO. The Villagrande di Auronzo Rule launches an anti bark beetle task force. The ok arrived Sunday evening during the assembly that approved the participation in a regional tender that will be used to raise the necessary funds to purchase new vehicles. An act prelude to the hiring of a small team of lumberjacks who, alongside the forest guard already hired for an indefinite period. Stefano Vecellio, will have to work hard to safeguard the territory from the inexorable advance of the bark beetle.

The idea of the Villagrande Rule is to hire two lumberjacks. A figure already trained at a professional level and another to be included at a later time with the training formula.

“The notice expires in the next few days but we are ready to present all the necessary documentation”, assures the president of the Rule, Andrea Zandegiacomo, “after hiring a forest guard for an indefinite period, we decided to broaden our range of action to protection of our woods. For this reason we thought, as a first step, to buy new vehicles, a tractor with a trailer in the first place. The other big step revolves around hiring a small team of lumberjacks who, together with the forest guard, will have to work to protect our greenery. We are aware of the difficulties because the territory of our competence is vast but we do not want to raise the white flag for this. Far from it. With the support of the institutions and the help of everyone, starting with the colleagues of the Villapiccola Rule, we have the task of protecting our woods from the advance of the bark beetle ».

As has already happened in other areas of Cadore, Auronzo is also struggling with the fight against the bark beetle. “We have been involved for some time in a process of safeguarding the territory but despite this there are many problems associated with the bark beetle”, continues Zandegiacomo. «We have already cut down a thousand cubic meters of trees with the aim of protecting the healthy ones but it is not easy to have a clear picture of the situation. From this point of view, the task of the forest guard, called to monitor the situation on a daily basis, becomes crucial. So far, where we have encountered problems, we have relied on local woodcutters to cut the sick trees, but being able to count on a team owned by us would allow us to speed up times and manage costs better ».

Regarding the fight against the bark beetle, the prevention activity is high in the Auronzano area. «We can count on 25% of traps installed in the entire province of Belluno», says Zandegiacomo, «the traps allow us to identify consistent presence of bark beetle, an unequivocal sign of the risk in progress. The positioning of the traps was launched together with the Villapiccola Rule and is proving to be very useful ».

Timing? “The announcement, as mentioned, expires in a few days, at the end of the month”, replies Zandegiacomo, “if all goes well in my opinion there are the conditions for having an enlarged team starting from next spring”.
