The series of meetings on chestnut growing – Environment is underway

The latest disastrous flood events in Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany have highlighted the need to safeguard the mountain and foothill areas of the Apennines, which are fundamental for the management of the hydrogeological instability affecting our country, and in need of an organic environmental, social and economic revaluation, to restart the process of restarting these areas abandoned by man. In this regard, the National Academy of Agriculture, with the intention of highlighting such important themes, has decided to organize a series of three meetings that focus on how chestnut growing can be a valid tool for help for the environment and the economy of mountain areas. The entire chestnut production chain will therefore be analyzed in depth taking into consideration different aspects such as plant pathologies, development possibilities for nurseries, the still little-known production capacities of chestnut trees and the numbers of the chestnut growing market in Italy and Emilia-Romagna .

Knowledge of chestnut growing will thus be at the center of the cycle organized by the National Academy of Agriculture, as part of the collaboration with the Carisbo Foundation, for the organization of scientific and informative activities of the “National Center for the study and conservation of forest biodiversity ” of the educational-experimental Castagneto of Granaglione.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 14 February from 4pm to 6pm, at the headquarters of the Cubiculum Artistarum in Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio in Bologna, and will deal with the issues of “Chestnut ink disease” and the development of tools for certification nursery with Prof. Sergio Murolo, Polytechnic of the Marche and Prof. Luca Dondini, University of Bologna.
