As the country’s only official thematic museum with the Olympic theme, the Beijing Olympic Museum has more than two thousand exhibits in the basic display of the Olympic memory of the Chinese people. Precious posters witness the success of bidding for the Winter Olympics
Entering the sixth exhibition area, a poster is hard to miss. On the poster, the English words “128th Plenary Session of the International Olympic Committee” and “Kuala Lumpur” can be immediately recognized by those familiar with the Winter Olympics. This is the roll-up poster for the 128th Plenary Session of the International Olympic Committee. The signatures on the poster came from part of the staff of the delegation bidding for the Winter Olympics, including one of the presenters, then vice chairman of the Beijing Winter Olympics bidding committee and chairman of the Chinese Paralympic Committee Zhang Haidi. After years of baptism, the writing on it has faded a bit, but the precious memory it carries is still shining.

On the evening of July 30, 2015, the 128th plenary session of the International Olympic Committee opened at the Kuala Lumpur Convention and Exhibition Center in Malaysia. An important agenda of this plenary meeting is to vote for the host city of the 2020 Winter Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics. For this reason, the Beijing Winter Olympics delegation has polished and revised the statement manuscript many times to make full preparations for the statement. An exciting time came. At around 18:00 on July 31st, IOC President Bach officially announced that Beijing and Zhangjiakou will have the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Xiao Junfeng, a member of the Beijing Winter Olympics delegation and the director of the Press and Propaganda Department of the Winter Olympics Bid Committee at the time, will save the roll-up posters displayed on the venue as a souvenir after obtaining the consent of the organizer; On the return flight of the delegation, she also carefully collected the signatures of some staff members of the delegation bidding for the Winter Olympics.

“Two-body” commemorative medal conveys peace and friendship
In 1984, the Winter Olympics came to a socialist country for the first time. Sarajevo in Yugoslavia defeated Gothenburg in Sweden and Sapporo in Japan and won the right to host the 14th Winter Olympics. The arrival of the Winter Olympics in this city that has been baptized by wars in both world wars has further demonstrated the Olympic Movement’s purpose of maintaining world peace. Sarajevo also showed the world its beauty after being reborn from the ashes through the Winter Olympics. Samaranch, then president of the International Olympic Committee, spoke highly of this, and regarded it as “the best and most exciting event in the 60-year history of the Winter Olympics.”
In the same year, the 23rd Summer Olympic Games was held in Los Angeles. The Sarajevo Winter Olympics Organizing Committee and the Los Angeles Summer Olympics Organizing Committee jointly issued an Olympic medal symbolizing peace and friendship. This is the first time in the history of the Olympics.
Now this commemorative medal is quietly displayed in the exhibition hall, telling the story of love and peace. The side of the medal on display is the emblem of the Sarajevo Winter Olympics; the side not on display is the dove of peace flying above the torch.
The donor of this exhibit is Zhao Sihong’s “Jinshan Road” reader charity team. The founder of the team is Zhao Sihong, a Chinese American collector. She leads the team to collect various collections from all over the world, in order to make more Valuable Olympic collections returned to the motherland.
“The Winter Olympics Picture Scroll” is integrated into the enamel statue
A 43 cm tall enamel statue attracts many audiences with its bright colors and unique shapes. This is the Beijing Winter Olympics licensed commemorative product “Winter Olympic Five Rings Enamel Zun”. As soon as the licensed merchandise came out, it triggered a craze for collecting by the whole people, and the supply was in short supply, and it was rarely seen in the market; therefore, this exhibit has also become a major stop in the exhibition area.

The small enamel statue is rich in meaning and incorporates the major elements of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Li Jing said that the design of shape and color was inspired by the Olympic rings logo. The shape of the vessel resembles a bamboo, and it has the meaning of “jumping tall”. The lid button is taken from the traditional Chinese Ruyi shape. The lid uses the Beijing Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremonies Bird’s Nest, the competition venue Ice Cube, Beijing’s Temple of Heaven, and Zhangjiakou’s Dajing Gate as creative elements to form a “Winter Olympic Picture Scroll”. The “dragon ears” made of colored glaze on both sides echo the eloquence of ice and snow. Respect the Shang Dynasty bronze tiger-footed tripod as the design blueprint, symbolizing the traditional Chinese elements of the Year of the Tiger.

In the exhibition hall, the two award-winning suits of the Sochi and Pingchang Winter Olympics stand side by side, and they are looking forward to the arrival of the new members of the award-winning suits of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The youngest exhibition area will be expanded
The sixth exhibition area “Winter Dream Leap in Beijing” is the “youngest” exhibition area in the Beijing Olympic Museum exhibition. Li Jing introduced that from January 1, 2014, the Beijing Olympic Museum will be open for trial operation. The exhibition includes five parts: “A Century of Olympics and Chinese Dreams”, “Scientific Development Leadership”, “Unparalleled World Together”, “Both Olympics are equally exciting”, “Olympics” “City of the World“, more than two thousand exhibits reproduce the wonderful moments of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. At the time, the museum only accepted group reservations.
In 2018, after the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics ended, the world‘s attention was once again turned to Beijing, and the Winter Olympics started the “Beijing Cycle”. In 2019, the Olympic Museum compressed the fifth part of the exhibition and added the sixth part; the renovated museum officially opened on December 30, 2019. It is worth mentioning that the exhibits in the sixth exhibition area will continue to expand. The museum has reserved an area of about 200 square meters, waiting for the new “Winter Olympic Memory” to settle in.
Huge “picture scroll” opens a journey of exploration
When it comes to the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, everyone will never forget the huge “picture scroll” that runs through. In the melodious sound of the piano, dancers are incarnate as pen and ink, using their limbs to outline the sun, mountains and rivers on the huge scroll. After entering the stadium, the athletes left their colorful footprints on the scroll in the center of the stadium-the colorful footprints and the pictures left by the cultural performances together constitute a beautiful scene of the “home of mankind”.
Today, this picture scroll is paved at the entrance of the museum’s exhibition hall, leading the audience to embark on a journey of exploration of the Olympics.
