The U.S. dares to blacklist DJI drones, if they have the ability, they really don’t need it

Original title: The U.S. dared to blacklist DJI drones

On December 14, the Financial Times reported that the U.S. Treasury Department will include DJI and other 8 Chinese companies on the so-called list on the 16th. But obviously, this is to curb DJI from the perspective of capital and stock price. The United States has no guts to really not allow American institutions not to purchase DJI drones.

DJI’s inclusion in this list does not mean that U.S. institutions will not be allowed to purchase DJI drones, but that U.S. investors will not be allowed to invest in DJI’s stocks, as well as to issue bonds and raise funds for DJI. There are several departments in the United States that can impose bans on Chinese companies. Among them, the Department of Commerce can prohibit US companies from selling products to Chinese companies, and the US Treasury Department can prohibit US institutions and individuals from investing in Chinese companies.

This does not have a great impact on DJI Innovation, the parent company of DJI UAV. The main reason is that DJI has completed 6 financings. Investors include Maixing Investment, Zhongxingguang, Xintianyu Capital, etc., which are basically China enterprise. DJI will not go to the US for listing in the future, because the US has already blocked this road. The market value of DJI Innovation exceeded 166 billion, but it never thought about listing.

The natural enemies of the United States look at Chinese drones, but they dare not really ban Chinese drones. The main reason is that they cannot leave China. The British “Financial Times” once reported that it had obtained a new memorandum submitted by the US Department of the Interior to Biden in January this year, which emphasized that the US Department of Defense would invite bids for the “blue drone” to replace Chinese products. The average price of the project is about US$2,100, which is 8 to 14 times more expensive than Chinese products; and due to design issues, it cannot meet the critical work needs of the former (U.S. Department of the Interior).

All these show that the United States actually dare not be too harsh on DJI drones.
