[EpochTimesJuly292021]The U.S. House of Representatives passed the State Department Appropriation Bill on July 28, which included amendments proposed by many Taiwanese congressmen to prohibit the US administration from spending money to produce, purchase, or display any Taiwanese paintings. On the evening of the 28th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Appropriation Bill for the State Department, Foreign Actions and Related Plans for the Fiscal Year 2022” with a total of about 62.2 billion US dollars (about NT$1.758.3 billion) with 217 votes in favor and 212 against votes.

Republican congressmen Tom Tiffany (Tom Tiffany), Xia Bo (Steve Chabot), Pei Li (Scott Perry) and other five Taiwanese congressmen proposed amendments at the meeting earlier on the 28th to prohibit the US executive from spending money on production, Purchase or display any map that draws Taiwan as part of China.

Tiffany stated that Taiwan has never been part of China (the Communist Party). It is well known that the people of Taiwan elect their own leaders, have their own military, implement their own foreign policies, and follow their own international trade agreements. Regardless of the criteria used, Taiwan is a sovereign, democratic, and independent country, and any claims to the contrary are not facts.

Tiffany pointed out that since the 1970s, the US “One China Policy” has recognized Beijing’s false claims that Taiwan is part of China (the Communist Party). He criticized this as a “dishonest policy” and the United States should abandon it.

Tiffany said that although his proposed amendment cannot change this policy, it can at least require the use of “an honest map that stops the continuation of a lie.” He emphasized: “The CCP is the CCP, and Taiwan is Taiwan.”

The amendment of Tiffany and others was finally wrapped up with more than 10 other amendments, passed by the House of Representatives by an oral vote without objection, and was included in the Appropriation Bill.

This appropriation bill will then be sent to the whole house of the Senate for deliberation, and if passed by both houses, it will be submitted to President Joe Biden for signature and take effect.
