The US does not negotiate with Edmundo González, the Venezuelans have already registered him

Francisco Palmieri, the head of the United States diplomatic mission to Venezuela, recently addressed the media regarding the ongoing negotiations with the Maduro government. In an interview with various media outlets, including Punto de Corte, Palmieri stated that while Maduro had complied with some measures regarding the Barbados agreements, the United States was willing to make the sanctions more flexible. However, the failure to allow the candidacy of María Corina Machado or Corina Yoris led to the measures announced on April 18 regarding OFAC license 44.

Palmieri emphasized that the 44th license should not be seen as a final decision, expressing his willingness to continue negotiations with the Maduro government. When asked about direct negotiations with Maduro’s government, Palmieri clarified that the United States is not negotiating the candidacy of Edmundo González but rather focusing on the compliance with the schedule for his registration on all democratic cards that have nominated him.

It is evident that the negotiations between the United States and Venezuela are still ongoing, with the potential for further discussions and flexibility in the sanctions imposed. The situation remains fluid, and both parties seem open to finding a resolution that benefits both sides. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
