The violent arm – International

by admin

This film is meant to be a debate. This is what I love most about cinema: a film is collective, it is viewed collectively, it invites discussion. I archived the videos of the yellow vests demonstrations (between November 2018 and February 2020) without imagining making a film of them, but keeping in touch with the people who had made them.

I am proud of the reconstruction work done: 95 percent of the films have been dated, credited and duly paid to the authors, sometimes at the cost of months of research. These people are witnesses to police violence, without them the film would not have existed. But the transposition we have made of them allows everyone to realize that these images are worth much more than it might seem immediately, looking at it on a phone screen. Projected on a big screen, they acquire the strength of a counter-narrative, of a direct, raw, committed cinema and finally, placed in an analytical perspective, they prove to have a much greater value than the videos we scroll on our smartphones. If people paid more attention to the behavior of the police force, which is a public force, that is, subject to state control, then we would have the beginning of the solution. When we realize the harshness of the economic crisis that is now spreading, we understand that managing it by force will not be the solution.
