The eighteenth edition of the La Gacilly photography festival has begun, a completely open-air exhibition itinerary which this year hosts twenty exhibitions dedicated to the climate and the environment in the French town of the same name. It is divided into three sections: To the north, The world of tomorrow e Creations. To the north hosts a number of Scandinavian photographers and photographers – including Sune Jonsson, Tiina Itkonen, Jonas Bendiksen and Tine Poppe – who reflect on how humans are changing once uncharted territories. The world of tomorrow presents works that question the future of certain animal species, such as Nick Brandt’s nocturnal visions on the disappearance of their natural habitats, or Pascal Maitre’s on the migration of monarch butterflies threatened by deforestation in Mexico. Finally Creations presents the views of authors and authors who have worked on the ecology and the consequences of the pandemic.
The event also takes place at the same time in Baden, Austria, for the fourth edition of the festival which this year has as its title Long live Latina!, and is dedicated to the story of hopes, revolutions and traditions of Latin America. Among the photographers on display are Luisa Dörr with the series Flying cholitas on Bolivian women who practice wrestling e Falleras of Valencia on the costumes prepared and worn by the women who participate in the feast of Falles, celebrated in honor of St. Joseph, patron saint of carpenters. And again the Argentine Marcos López with his images that mix pop colors, American culture and South American clichés.
The exhibitions in La Gacilly will last until October 31st, while those in Baden until October 17th.
