Father, mother and son hospitalized for intoxication: they would not be in danger of life
A family from Palermo was admitted to the Civic hospital due to intoxication. The couple and their son felt ill after eating a risotto with mandrake, the latter previously harvested in the countryside, mistaking it for borage.
They presented themselves to the emergency room: mother and son were admitted to the Civic hospital of Palermo, the man at another facility. The most serious of the three has been given the antidote, but none are life threatening and there is no confidential prognosis.
Intoxication following the ingestion of mandrake, a highly toxic plant that can be easily confused with other vegetables in common use, is not rare in this period and it is not the first similar case recorded in recent years.
