Thirty Belluno pharmacies ready to vaccinate: “We await the green light of the Ulss”

Thirty out of seventy-six structures are said to be available. Many of the professionals have already completed the online training course

Thirty out of 76 pharmacies in the province have given their willingness to vaccinate citizens, but they could also increase or decrease over time depending on the choices of individual owners. And if the availability of the professionals of the category has been given, today the latter are waiting to understand when they will be able to leave.

AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available for them, serums that do not need a cold chain and can therefore be handled quite easily even by pharmacists.

“In recent days we have signed an agreement with the Region to be able to carry out anti-Covid immunizations as well”, says Alessandro Somacal, president of the Category Order, “many of us have already attended the first compulsory online course and others have also finished the second and wait to understand when the practical test with doctor and nurse will take place. Once this process is completed we are ready for the inoculations ». But there is an important detail that must be taken into consideration. «We will be able to use only two types of serums: the Anglo-Swedish one which requires two doses and the Johnson & Johnson, for which only one injection is enough. But each vial of this vaccine contains five doses so once the vial is opened it must be used completely within six hours. And the preparation of the syringes will be our job. From what we know as pharmacists we should be given 50 doses a week ».

But for Somacal, even this operation will not be very easy. «Each pharmacy will have to evaluate whether it will be able to do it based also on the spaces available in its shops and on the staff. We know that the administration can be done during lunch breaks or even during normal opening hours, but all this will depend on the individual pharmacists. In addition, everything will also depend on how much vaccine supply you can have and above all on how many people will already be immunized when we start vaccinating ». Prophylaxis can only be done upon reservation.

A pharmacist will be vaccinating. “But the bureaucratic part will not be indifferent,” Somacal concludes. «In fact, when the user shows up, we will have to have him fill in the anamnestic form and only if he has no pathologies of any type will we be able to immunize him. If, on the other hand, he has illnesses or allergies, we will have to postpone him to the Ulss vaccination sessions. In addition, once the dose has been administered, the person will have to wait at the pharmacy for at least 15 minutes for any adverse events. To avoid which we will have to equip ourselves with an emergency trolley whose drugs and devices have been indicated by the Region. In case of a serious reaction we have to call 118. And then the data will have to be transmitted to a portal. Each pharmacy will therefore make its own assessments if it can do all this ». –
