This Ash Wednesday, the Holy Monday procession presented its poster for 2024 – news

On March 25, with the Eucharist procession, the sacred parades begin in Popayán.

With large attendance, the president of the Holy Monday Processional Board, architect Luis Eduardo Ayerbe González, presented in the House Museum that bears his name, located in the historic sector of Popayán, the promotional poster of the Holy Monday Eucharist procession 2024.

This procession was recovered in 2017, under the direction of Ayerbe González, who called it “of the people”, with the aim of giving more people the opportunity, especially young people from different neighborhoods and villages of the city, who sought to integrate into the cargo and continue this tradition.

Since then, every year this sacred parade has been enriched. In 2023 the figure of the acolyte was introduced. Four men and four women acolytes carry silver parades, which end in a golden mesh, an allegory to the Custody and the Chalice, in allusion to the Institution of the Eucharist, the central step of this procession that stages the Last Supper of Jesus with the apostles, who parade each one in their corresponding step.

The male acolytes wear black suits, white shirts and black ties; women, black dress and gold French mantilla.

At the launch of the promotional poster for the Holy Monday procession, the architect Luis Eduardo Ayerbe was accompanied by Police and Army authorities, who will provide accompaniment in this sacred parade.

In the presentation of the 2024 poster, the president of the Processional Board highlighted the massive participation of the parishioner in the procession of the year 2023, which since its restitution has been very well received, and invited citizens to accompany it on Holy Monday, March 25, 2024 starting at 8:00 pm, on its tour of the historic center of Popayán.
