Tomas Tuchel will leave the position of coach of Bayern Munich at the end of this season, the Bavarian club announced this Wednesday in a statement, immersed in a deep crisis due to the lack of results, especially in the Bundesliga.

Arrived on the Bayern bench at the end of March 2023 to replace Julian Negelsmann, Tuchel had a contract until June 2025, although both parties decided in a “friendly meeting” to end the agreement a year earlier than planned.

«FC Bayern Munich and coach Thomas Tuchel have decided by mutual agreement to end their relationship, which in principle ended on June 30, 2025, on June 30, 2024. This is the agreement reached as a result of a friendly meeting between general director Jan-Christian Dreesen and Thomas Tuchel,” the club wrote in its statement.

The leader explained that the decision is due to the entity’s desire to “restructure” the team “with a new coach for the 2024-2025 season.”

Until then, Tuchel has between 13 and 18 games left at Bayern, depending on his run in the Champions League, where he lost in Rome against Lazio 1-0 in the first leg of the round of 16.

In the Bundesliga, with 12 games remaining, Bayern has a very difficult time retaining its title as it is eight points behind the leader, Bayer Leverkusen.

And in the German Cup, the Bavarian giant has already been eliminated, so the club could end its first season blank for the first time since 2011.

Dreesen “explicitly made the team responsible” for fighting to “achieve the highest possible objectives” in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga.

Tuchel promised to do “everything possible to achieve maximum success” until the end of the season.
