BELLUNO. It is still not known how many people fleeing Afghanistan will arrive in Belluno and a lot also depends on the ability to offer them hospitality in suitable accommodation. Time, however, is running out and on Monday the mayor, Jacopo Massaro, has decided to issue an appeal to all those who will be able to give their help.
In light of the difficult situation in Afghanistan, which sees the abandonment of the country by many citizens after the regime change, Belluno is therefore preparing to do its part, as already announced by the mayor in the hours immediately following the start of the withdrawal of troops.
The municipal administration has in fact decided to make itself available to welcome the families of refugees fleeing Afghanistan, within the Sai network – Reception and integration system (formerly Sprar); to this end it is constantly dealing with the Prefecture, with which it has already established an excellent collaboration for the management of this particular situation.
Families will have to be placed in vacant apartments, furnished and in any case ready for use, the rent of which will be included in the general costs of the Sai network.
The mayor of Belluno therefore launches an appeal to fellow citizens who had suitable accommodation available.
«For Afghanistan it is a difficult moment», declares the mayor Massaro, «and we feel the duty to do our part, welcoming those who, fearing the future, painfully leave their country in these days. We Belluno are a welcoming people, who have always known the weight of difficulties and sacrifice and therefore also the importance of solidarity. I am therefore convinced that whoever is in a position to lend a hand will come forward ».
At this stage an urgent recognition of the availability of housing is underway, therefore the interested parties will have to limit themselves to giving the availability of free properties by giving some general information (location, general conditions, square meters, characteristics, etc.) by writing to: belluno. It should be emphasized that at this moment there is a tendency to avoid placing families on the run with other families that may have a few more rooms, to avoid some logistical, welfare and administrative problems.
Unlike other contexts, in fact, Afghan citizens refugees in Italy are made up of families that will not be divided. According to preliminary information, accommodation for two or four people is being sought, but there are also much larger families, up to 15 people. In the city there are already apartments intended for reception, but generally people who have arrived in Italy alone live together.
