Three years after his departure, La Paz will remember Jorge Oñate

This February 28 marks the third anniversary of the death of the ‘Goldfinch of America’, Jorge Oñate. Therefore, in the municipality of La Paz, his homeland, he will be remembered with religious and cultural events to honor his memory.

The activities are programmed by the Mayor’s Office of La Paz and the Oñatista Club. It begins at 8:00 in the morning with a mass in memory of the Nightingale of Cesar, who was one of the greatest exponents of Vallenato folklore.

At 9:00 in the morning, the formal events begin, including a street of honor and a floral offering at the tomb where the singer’s remains rest. Then at 10:00 in the morning there will be children’s musical performances to honor the legacy of one of the greatest of vallenato.

All these activities will take place in the small square of the Municipal Cemetery of La Paz.

“We do this event from the cradle of talents, culture and tradition that is our beloved municipality of La Paz. It is an opportunity to remember the iconic figure of Jorge Oñate, a true ambassador of our music and our land, who with his unmistakable voice took vallenato throughout the world,” said Wilson Rincón, mayor of La Paz.
