But why do water bombs, storms and deadly gusts of wind hit Valbelluna and in particular its western area?
«Because Valbelluna has a climate very similar to that of the plain. It has been very hot and very humid these days. In the presence of the Feltrine peaks, the water vapor has risen strongly; the mountains served as a springboard. As happens along the Pedemontana del Grappa, this one too hit by bad weather ».
From the diving board, where is the water vapor thrown?
“Towards those perturbations, at 6-10 km of altitude, where the hail is formed”.
Hail yes, but definitely excessive, with grains sometimes of exceptional size.
“Yes, because up there the water vapor meets temperatures from 65 to 70 degrees below zero.”
Why such phenomena this summer?
“They can be traced back to the disturbances that hit Germany and that part of Europe. They are offshoots of those phenomena. In fact, we are registering many small eddies that we did not encounter in the past. Hence the repeated storm events that last a few minutes to make way for good weather. Yesterday, in the early afternoon, for example, one of these situations occurred, then a long pause. Another very heavy event, between 7 pm and 8 pm, which then immediately disappeared ».
So, in Valbelluna, will we have to continue to deal with these incursions?
«For this summer probably yes. I don’t know if the same weather conditions will be repeated in the same season next year. What is certain is that Valbelluna, and the other territories that extend it up to 35-40 kilometers, are an ideal place for humid heat to form, substantially at the same altitudes as the plain beyond the Prealps. But upstream of the Valbelluna the Vette stand out, the crepes that make up the launching pad for the onset of those phenomena that lead to the formation of “ice bullets” ».
The weather in the next few days? Today and tomorrow morning sun, then between the afternoon and Wednesday it will return to rain. The weather should improve on Thursday.
