Titian exhibition: the majority makes square but is exhausted

The group leaders: «Shared choice and responsibility». In the background, the request to the mayor to be more present

BELLUNO. For some it is the straw that broke the camel’s back, for others it is a shared choice and responsibility. But for everyone there is a great need for vacation. The freezing of the exhibition on Titian has brought a new element of disappointment among some members of the majority who support the mayor Jacopo Massaro, who in addition to guarding against the obvious attacks of the opposition, must also deal with the heavy stance of the president of the Theaters of the Dolomites Foundation, Tiziana Pagani Cesa.

frost on the foundation

Officially it was decided not to reply to the words of the new president, appointed to the top of the Foundation by the mayor himself, in an attempt not to feed a certain climate of increasingly visible disintegration outside the walls of Palazzo Rosso. But everyone agrees on the fact that Pagani Cesa has at least sin of inexperience. “The president, on a mandate from the mayor, administers two strategic containers of the municipality with the money of the municipality”, recalled by the majority, underlining the astonishment for his criticisms of the municipal administration’s strategies.

A SHARED CHOICE

In reality, the decision to postpone the exhibition was taken during a meeting which was attended, together with the mayor and the councilor for culture Marco Perale, also by the president of the municipal council Francesco Rasera Berna and the three majority group leaders. “We made a gesture of responsibility,” assures Massimo De Pellegrin (Together for Belluno – Future city). “Covid may seem like an excuse, but it really is and even the institutional partners who were supposed to support the exhibition have expressed serious doubts about whether to invest all that money in a high-risk project. The Municipality had already allocated about 400,000 euros, part of which will still be invested to adapt the exhibition spaces, but the other 800,000 were not at all safe. We asked ourselves: what if that money doesn’t arrive? What if they arrive but don’t let us open the exhibition? It is easy to criticize when you are in opposition, but I would like to know if they would have trusted them and organized the exhibition as if nothing had happened. The point ”, concludes Maci De Pellegrin,“ is that none of the bodies that had to help us have put their commitment on paper and we were too close to the point of no return to procrastinate any longer. We all agreed on the need to freeze the exhibition ».

Walter Cibien, group leader of In Movimento, confirms and adds: «The real source of frustration is given by this state of uncertainty. The trend of the pandemic, the lower revenues from the state and being at the end of the mandate complicates any planning. We must be very careful not to make bad choices, even if we regret because we would all have been very happy to organize this exhibition. The mood of the majority, however, “assures Cibien,” is high. We want to go on now and even later ».

there is NEED OF HOLIDAY

“If we had organized the exhibition, despite the objective risk that weighs on the coming months, they would have given us irresponsible ones”, adds the group leader of BellunoD +, Giangiacomo Nicolini. “The point is that if you do they criticize you, if you don’t they criticize you and for me, as I am the least political of all, it is hard to accept. To say that this is splitting the majority is wrong, there are no fractures, but only about thirty people who have different points of union and different views on other things. The goal is to accomplish as much as possible. The future is all to be built, but now there is a need to settle down, go on vacation and then return with the necessary momentum ».

REINFORCING THE MOORINGS

A general climate of demotivation, however, is undeniable within the majority, which looks to Mayor Massaro as the only one who can give a push so that the mandate does not close by inertia. More sharing and involvement of the councilors, but also greater presence are the requests that are addressed to the mayor.
