The reform of the public administration it is the first to start, also because all the others, linked to the Recovery plan, can be implemented within the times strictly indicated by European standards only if they are hinged and controlled by an efficient and rapid state apparatus. It is up to Renato Brunetta to tackle this complicated matter, in much better conditions than those in which he found himself leading the same ministry in 2008. This time there is more willingness to finance the reform, which has allowed for the renewal of public employment contracts. and to enter into a “pact for the innovation of public work and for social cohesion” with the trade unions. The competitions have started, with the aim of a substantial turnover of staff, 500,000 employees in five years, which should ensure rejuvenation and a better professional level. The pace is good and the necessary health precautions have been taken. Youth-egalitarian protests challenging the minimum requirements to participate in competitions are unfounded. It will be possible to review the conditions of access but certainly not in the anti-meritocratic logic of the “todos caballeros”.
