The mandatory vaccination for everyone, aged 18 and over, will almost certainly not be on the table in the Council of Ministers which should be held on Wednesday. The squeeze should come only for the world of work and in these hours, at the top floors of the government, we are thinking about how to proceed. The “reinforced” green pass obligation (therefore only for those recovered from Covid or vaccinated, keeping out those who can only certify a negative swab) is currently ready for public administration employees who are missing: an audience of about 950 thousand workers, considering that the obligation is already a reality for the police, for schools and the world of health. For those who have not yet been met by the imposition it is taken for granted that the measure will be launched in the Cdm to be held this week.
The knots to untie
The problem to be solved in the next few hours is whether to extend the obligation to the private sector as well: thus reaching all workers, no one excluded. Excluding the possibility of introducing the vaccination obligation tout court, one of the hypotheses on which we are discussing in these hours is to provide a sort of road map for the private sector, so as to introduce the obligation by proceeding by sector without causing trouble. some productive realities which, thanks to the surge in infections, are already in difficulty due to absences and scarce attendances.
The doubts of M5s and Lega
We are working tirelessly on a synthesis that everyone can agree on. On the other hand, the possibility of introducing the obligation to the entire world of work, without distinctions between public and private – a solution strongly supported by the PA Minister Renato Brunetta – was already examined and discussed in the Cdm of last December 23 – as well as in the meeting of the 29th of last month – but then it did not translate into a norm due to the doubts raised, in particular, by Lega and M5S. Even if in the same M5S there is no lack of divisions on the line to be taken, with internal fractures that will try to be recomposed in the evening in a joint assembly on the subject.
The pressing of the Democratic Party for the vaccination obligation
A slice of the large Drago majority – especially the Democratic Party – is pressing for the vaccination obligation, but for now the opposition of Palazzo Chigi remains. If it comes to the obligation, it is the line, it will be in a few months. In the two previous meetings of the CDM, the super green pass for the whole world of work was pushed by – in addition to the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, from Leu – the holder of the public function, the blue Renato Brunetta (who is also an economist del lavoro), as a natural evolution of the current legislation in force since mid-October. Against or with strong perplexities remain above all the M5s and the leader of the Lega Matteo Salvini.
