Trains more punctual with electrification: the greatest inconveniences on the Feltre-Treviso

by admin

/ BELLUNO

Trains more punctual, thanks to electrification. Over 95% on the Belluno, Vittorio Veneto, Conegliano, Venice lines. Almost 96% on the Belluno-Calalzo, where however there are still many cancellations. “Only” 92.4% on Belluno, Feltre, Montebelluna and Treviso. The monitoring bears the signature, once again, of the “Trenibelluno” Association, whose spokesperson is Alessandro De Nardi. «Travelers and commuters can be satisfied», De Nardi underlines, «even if perhaps it is legitimate to expect even more».

MONITORING SINCE 2013

It is since 2013, the year before the introduction of the cadenced timetable in Veneto, that control began, initially focused on the Ponte nelle Alpi – Conegliano section, with all the trains that circulated there, from “local” to “direct” . “Since then, always free of charge and independently, we have extended it to other lines, measuring them not only with data obtained from our direct experience, but above all with information obtained from the Trenitalia Viaggiatreno service”.

THE RESULTS

The races monitored last year totaled 8,667 out of 8,670. 95.3% of trains arrived on time, i.e. within 5 minutes of any delay: 2.4% between 6 and 15 minutes, 1% between 16 and 30 minutes, 0.4% over the 31 minutes. 0.9% of the convoys were canceled. With the introduction of electrification on Conegliano-Belluno and Montebelluna Castelfranco, trains arriving on time, i.e. 5 minutes late, actually dropped to 94.4%, compared to the circulation of diesel trains which, in fact, recorded a higher percentage of punctuality, precisely 96.2% (the percentage of trains canceled dropped to 0.8%).

ELECTRICAL LESS TIMELY

«It is not surprising that the best service is the one with diesel trains (punctuality, in fact, of 96.2%). The reasons “, explains De Nardi,” are to be identified in the shorter distance traveled by trains, almost all scheduled between Belluno and Conegliano and vice versa, and in the lower number of travelers and trains on the railway network due to the pandemic. In the second half, on the other hand, punctuality is slightly lower (94.4%) but still good and in line with the values of recent years. Among the reasons we mention the temporary unavailability of the Santa Croce del Lago station for crossings due to some works, and above all the fifteen trips a day that terminate in Venice Santa Lucia instead of Conegliano ». With the longer journey the possibility of a train being delayed due to some inconvenience rises and roughly half of the delays originated right on the busy tracks south of Conegliano. Compared to previous years, punctuality within 5 minutes was above 96% in 2017 and 2018, while in 2013 it was 70.4%.

BELLUNO-VENICE

Taking into consideration only the Belluno-Conegliano-Venice line, it went from 94% in 2019 to 95.3% last year (we always talk about delays contained within 5 minutes). In the Conegliano-Venice section alone, the percentage, which in 2019 was 91.9%, rose to 96.6% last year, but cancellations increased: from 0.7 to 0.8%. The service with electric and direct trains far exceeds the comparison with the year 2013, when there was no regular timetable and there were still, albeit fewer than today, direct runs between the Belluno area and Venice. connections sometimes regretted because on paper a little faster than today, but in reality they were too often slowed down by even three-digit or canceled delays. “The choices made and the investments made for electrification, for other infrastructure upgrading interventions and for the renewal of rolling stock, also recently contested by some”, notes the spokesman for “Trenibelluno”, “have allowed the return of direct trains without returning to that punctuality of 70% ».

BELLUNO-CALALZO

As for the Belluno-Calalzo line, 4,473 routes were monitored. Arrivals within 5 minutes late were 95.9%, while cancellations increased to 1.3%. Punctuality was better in 2018 (97%), 2017 (96.9%) and 2016 (96.6%). Cancellations in 2020 were as much as 2%; the record in 2015 with 3, 5%.

BELLUNO-FELTRE-TREVISO

As regards the Belluno-Montebelluna-Treviso line, the monitored routes were 7,138 out of 7,144. And here, unfortunately, greater delays are taken into account, in the sense that only 92.4% of trains reached their destination less than 5 minutes late; 4.7% recorded from 6 to 15 minutes, 1.5% from 16 to 30. But in previous years it had gone even worse, with the record percentage of delays between 6 and 15 minutes in 2014 (14 , 5%); in 2020, however, there was a 7% share.
