Two inmates escaped from Trani prison this afternoon. The police unions FP-Cosp and Sappe make it known and investigative sources confirm it, who have started searches with checkpoints and searches throughout the north of Bari. According to the trade unions, these are the offenders from Bari Daniele Arciuli, aged 22, e Giuseppe Antonio De Noja, of 28. They would have climbed over the boundary wall and then moved away on Via Andria.

The two inmates escaped from Trani prison today after having climbed the prison wall are a murderer and a serial robber.
Arciuli was in prison for the murder of Gaetano Spera, 22 years old, killed on 25 March 2015 in the municipal villa of Giovinazzo. At the time Arciuli was a minor, he was arrested on charges of co-perpetrating the crime on July 30, 2015, when he was 16, and was sentenced by the juvenile court with an end of sentence in November 2024. Spera was murdered in the context of a settlement of accounts linked to the control of fishing activities in the waters off the coast of Giovinazzo and Bari-Santo Spirito.

De Noja, a serial robber, was in prison since 2017 with his brother Giovanni, also detained in Trani, for seven robberies committed against the operators of petrol stations in the Bari districts of Palese and Santo Spirito and Bitonto.

“Although one was restricted for murder and the other for robbery and drugs – he explains Federico Pilagatti del Sappe – freely roamed the prison thanks to the wicked dynamic vigilance imposed years ago by the Dap. The surrounding wall was unguarded and the policeman in the control room immediately gave the alarm when the two climbed over the wall “.

“This one in Trani, like the one in breaking latest news a few days ago, is an announced escape, the result of the superficiality with which the many complaints made by the Autonomous Prison Police Syndicate on the security conditions of the institute have been treated and managed”. This was declared by the general secretary of Sappe, Donato Capece, commenting on the escape of two inmates from Trani prison.

“Now it is a priority to capture the fugitives – says the Apulian colleague Federico Pilagatti – but the serious affair brings to light the often overlooked security priorities with which the women and men of the Trani prison police have to deal every day “.

He speaks of “sensational joke” Domenico Mastrulli, secretary of the Cosp trade union, pointing out that “in Trani there had been no evasion since 1970” and asking for “the intervention of the minister Marta Cartabia to solve the problem of the shortage of personnel, with about 200 prison police officers for a prison population of almost 350 men “.
