Treviso, diocese and solidarity individuals: a 580 thousand euro fund to help families

by admin

The “It’s up to us” project has already answered over 200 support questions. Rent, job loss, shopping, bills: “Let’s network”

TREVISO. Help for many families in difficulty in the face of the economic crisis, rents and increases in bills comes from the diocesan project “Sta a noi” which in three months, from May to August, has already helped dozens of people, providing 254,975 euros to over 150 families

The balance sheet as at 31 August recorded 206 requests sent with 184 interviews already carried out by the operators. Another 22 questions are pending. 82% of the requests obtained a positive outcome, 7.5% are being evaluated and approximately 1,300 euros have been paid to each family. A figure that does not solve the problem but helps to overcome this difficult moment, in which families are not left alone but supported by volunteers who try together to find solutions.

In addition to the Community Fund for families, the “It’s up to us” project coordinated by Caritas involves microcredit for businesses: 22 talks concluded with 53,000 euros approved, 12,000 of which have already been disbursed. 36 per cent of the applications obtained a positive result, 40 per cent are in the process of being evaluated and 22.7 per cent were not accepted due to different reasons.

The objective of the entire project is in fact to revive the productive activity, verifying if there are the conditions to “stand alone”, adopting strategies and offering targeted consultants. Thus, in the first three months, compared to the 148 thousand euros requested, 53,131 were approved, of which 12,136 had already been disbursed. “We also mark the cents because it is important to understand the real area of need and commitment to get out of the tunnel”, explained the director of Caritas Don Davide Schiavon, explaining the project strongly desired by the bishop, implemented in synergy with many other realities and people in the area .

A support network started thanks to an initial allocation of 550 thousand euros made available by the diocese of Treviso, with funds deriving in part from 8 per thousand. Then bodies, companies and individuals were involved and are implementing the total, bringing the family fund to over 800 thousand euros.

In the first months of activity there are many Treviso people who have decided to support the solidarity and sharing project, donating small or large sums depending on availability, with a community perspective that sees everyone responsible for the well-being of others. “We have discovered in this pandemic time that it is necessary to take care of each other by building networks of solidarity,” says Bishop Michele Tomasi.
