Treviso, Halloween effect on infections: 11 hospitalizations for Covid in two days

Benazzi offers a Vax day in Santa Lucia di Piave, Fonte and Refrontolo. But the “No pass” mayor Riccardo Szumski opposes: “A carnival”

TREVISO. After Sarmede it will be the turn of the municipalities of Fonte, Refrontolo and Santa Lucia di Piave. The Treviso health company is ready to contact their mayors to organize a Extraordinary Vax Day in the town hall. The aim of the initiative is to raise vaccination coverage against Covid, in the population aged 60 and over, which resides in the three territories where adherence to prophylaxis was among the lowest in the province.

Just 82% of immunized in Refrontolo, 82.6% in Fonte and 82.8% in Santa Lucia di Piave, the latter location where the mayor Riccardo Szumski is also a family doctor, a heretic of the anti-Covid vaccination who fills the squares, collects thousands of likes on the net and, in stark contrast to the obligation of a Green pass, has set up a gazebo outside the town hall to receive his fellow citizens. In spite of everything, the general director of Ulss 2 Francesco Benazzi proves to be confident and trusts in the collaboration with the three first citizens, without distinction.

«Dr. Szumski has always said that he is not against vaccination, this Vax Day is a good opportunity to prove it. Let’s show that the institutions are there, the Municipalities and the Ulss join forces to raise vaccination coverage »comments Benazzi.

However, when asked about the question, Szumski proves skeptical: “I am very disgusted, I did not know anything about it, I would like to understand the reasons for these carnivals“. And on the willingness to grant the council chamber? «I have to think about it, it doesn’t seem the right place. Anyone who has always defined us as health authorities but we avoid telling shit, in fact we do not count for anything. In the next few days, the management of Ulss 2 together with the Hygiene and Public Health service will contact the mayors, as well as Szumski also Luigino Ceccato di Fonte and Mauro Canal di Refrontolo, to finalize the vaccination event within a couple of weeks. The intention is to proceed as done last Saturday in Sarmede, with the sending of the health care camper of the Ulss and the administration of the anti-Covid drug first, second or third dose, as well as the anti-flu, free of charge from 9.30 to 12.30.

In the last few days, meanwhile, hospitalizations for Covid date back: on 6 November 51 hospitalized patients, which rose to 62 yesterday. The effect of the Halloween infections has given the virus a boost. Four new entries in infectious diseases: a 71-year-old vaccinated with diseases, an 85-year-old immunized with two doses, a 41-year-old and a 47-year-old both unvaccinated. An 83-year-old man with multiple pathologies and three patients with pneumonia entered medicine in Vittorio Veneto, a 58-year-old, a 56-year-old, a 46-year-old, all unvaccinated, while another 3 patients arrived at the Vittorio Veneto community hospital, all without vaccination or with a single dose of Moderna (after receiving the first puncture they no longer wanted to take the second one).

“We expected this trend in hospitalizations given that we have exceeded the average of 100 new positivity per day,” comments Benazzi. The provincial average is 76 cases detected per 100,000 inhabitants, but 27 municipalities in the Marca have exceeded the threshold of 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. “At the moment we are not in danger of entering the yellow zone” reiterates the CEO “but we will have to see the progress of hospitalizations to understand what will happen in the coming weeks”.
