TREVISO.Contributions to municipalities, campaign against mobile phones in the car and lessons in schools: these are the actions implemented by the Province of Treviso for road safety and combat fatal road accidents.
There are three lines of action on which the provincial administration’s commitment is concretized: contributions to municipalities for road works, a campaign together with the MOM against the use of the telephone in the car and the resumption of awareness-raising initiatives in schools.
«The data tells us that nn the period January-August 2019 had recorded 41 deaths (2020 is not valid for statistical purposes), while now in the same period we count 43. An upward trend, which worries us above all if we think that most of the fatal accidents occurred after May, therefore a moment of great concentration, probably after the relaxation of the restrictions. This is why it is necessary to identify more action plans and we are called to establish general states on this emergency ” Stefano Marcon began, president of the Province of Treviso.
First of all, the results of the call for assignment to municipalities for co-financing for road works (slide and list attached). “The Province has deployed 5 million euros between 2021 and 2022 drawing up a ranking based on precise evaluation criteria “, continues Marcon,” in total, with our 2.5 million euros in 2021 we will co-finance 6,947,335 euros of works, going to improve road safety and eliminate the few remaining black spots. With the budget surplus we will finance all 70 interventions presented by the municipalities, so we can already say with serenity that no one will be excluded. We will do this with the next budget change, thus reaching a total of 13,246,141 euros of works financed “.
«But we will not stop at this», Marcon continues, «the statistics of recent times tell us that the distraction dictated by the use of the telephone while driving is a major cause, regardless of the road situation. This is why our new awareness campaign will soon appear on MOM vehicles: “This message will self-destruct in … 3 seconds”. It is essential to understand how distraction is the main cause ».
«Again», Marcon closes, «we are preparing the ri start of awareness-raising initiatives in schools that in the past, before they cut the funds to the Province, they had allowed us, together with other actions, to reduce road deaths by 50%.
