Typhoon fireworks are expected to land in Zhejiang on the 25th with strong storms | Meteorological Bureau | Epoch Times

[Epoch Times, July 23, 2021]Typhoon “Fireworks” is expected to make landfall along the coast from Zhoushan to Yuhuan, Zhejiang from the afternoon of July 25 to the early morning of July 26, bringing extremely heavy rainfall to Zhejiang and Shanghai. Coinciding with the astronomical tide, Zhejiang Province decided to upgrade the emergency response to typhoon defense to level 2 at noon today.

Taiwan’s Central Meteorological Bureau stated on July 23 that the typhoon’s center was located 500 kilometers southeast of Taipei’s southeast of Taipei at 5 a.m., turning west, northwest and west, and gradually approaching the southern sea of Ryukyu. It affected Taiwan on the 23rd and 24th. It is most obvious in northern Taiwan, especially in the northern mountainous areas, where there may be local heavy rain or above. After that, it will move northwest to land in Fujian and Zhejiang. Because it is located in the monsoon low-pressure circulation, it is affected by the strong and weak Pacific high pressure, low pressure circulation or low pressure. The path of the future development of the tropical system within the circulation is still uncertain.

The Chinese Communist Party’s official Xinhua News Agency reported that the fireworks are expected to be typhoon-level or strong typhoon-level (level 13 to 14) when they land, and their intensity will gradually weaken after landing, and they may circulate in eastern China.

Starting on the 23rd, affected by the “fireworks”, the wind and rain in East China will gradually intensify, and there will be large-scale continuous heavy rainfall and strong winds in Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian and other places.

In addition, around the 25th, it was during the astronomical high tide period. The report pointed out that coastal areas should be protected from the impact of storm surge and seawater intrusion caused by the astronomical tide.

The report said that due to the uncertainty in the forecast of the typhoon “fireworks”, it may circulate and stay in eastern China after landing, bringing extremely heavy rainfall to Zhejiang and Shanghai.

Tong Huabin, deputy director of the command center of the Zhejiang Provincial Emergency Management Department, said that the typhoon “fireworks” has three main characteristics: one is that the wind is very strong, and the resulting gale has a great impact on the sea and coastal areas of Zhejiang Province; the other is the rainfall that it brings. It is very large; the third is the “strong wind, heavy rain, and high tide” meeting. It is expected that the landfall coincides with the astronomical tide period, which will have a greater impact on the seawalls in Zhejiang Province, which is not conducive to drainage and flood discharge.

The Voice of Traffic on the Zhejiang radio station quoted meteorological analyst Zhou Ying as saying that if “fireworks” landed in Zhejiang with the intensity of a strong typhoon, it would become the strongest typhoon to land in Zhejiang in July. Historically, strong typhoons or super typhoons landed in Zhejiang in July are extremely rare, most of them in August.
