U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday that Zeya, who is in charge of democracy and human rights, will lead the United States to protect Tibet’s religious, cultural and linguistic heritage in the event of human rights violations in Beijing.

Beijing has always refused to deal with the US Tibet Coordinator, saying it interfered in internal affairs.

“We will never recognize this appointment.” Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Communist Party’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters. “The appointment of a special coordinator for Tibet by the United States is interfering in China’s internal affairs.”

Brinken said in a tweet: “She will lead U.S. efforts to protect the religious, cultural and linguistic heritage of Tibetans facing human rights violations and livelihood and environmental challenges.”

The CCP marched into Tibet in 1950 in what it called “peaceful liberation” and subsequently gained control of the area. Critics say that Beijing’s rule of Tibet amounts to “cultural genocide.”

The CCP not only carried out a land reform movement in Tibet-the government promoted public ownership of land, collected civilian weapons, destroyed temples, and established government at the grassroots level. More importantly, the CCP tried to completely control and eliminate the Tibetan religious and cultural system.

The CCP denies any acts of “genocide” in Tibet.

The International Support for Tibet Movement advocacy organization welcomed Zeya’s new appointment. The interim chairman of the organization, Bhuchung Tsering, urged Zeya to lead allies in an email to jointly formulate the Tibet policy, which was stipulated in the Tibet Policy and Support Act passed by the United States last year.

The CCP’s handling of a series of issues such as trade, Taiwan, Hong Kong, human rights, the South China Sea, and the coronavirus (CCV) has caused Western society to lose confidence in it. U.S.-China relations are currently at their lowest point in decades.

Last year (2020), after the administration of former US President Donald Trump (Trump) appointed Zeya’s predecessor to the same post, the CCP immediately reacted angrily, accusing the US of trying to destabilize Tibet.
