At around 16.30 today, Friday 11th, the searches for an aircraft that was lost at high altitude above Ceresole Reale in the mountains of Gran Paradiso, between Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, started. The last coordinates transmitted by the aircraft refer to the area of the Dres waterfalls, upstream of Ceresole Reale, a few minutes after 11. on foot she climbed to the point indicated by the coordinates to identify any traces of the plane. In the meantime, the Carabinieri have tried to verify the cell phones hooked by the pilot’s cell phone, the only passenger on board, in the hope of obtaining further information for the research. The firefighters collaborated in the operations.
The patrol of the Piedmontese mountain and speleological rescue teams gave a negative result. The portion of the mountain had been searched in the area indicated by the GPS coordinates where the ultralight aircraft missing from the morning would have disappeared. The weather conditions have greatly hampered operations because the area is affected by dense fog and sleet. In the meantime, the guardians of the dam of Lake Serrù were consulted and during the day they did not see or hear any traces of the aircraft. The teams have returned because the darkness makes the patrols difficult. In the evening a briefing was organized with the firefighters to establish an operational strategy for Saturday.
