UN, climate change warning. And France bans ads for fossil fuels

A few hours ago, the umpteenth UN alarm arrived: either greenhouse gas emissions are reduced drastically and immediately, or it will not be possible to contain the rise in the global average temperature within 1.5 / 2 degrees centigrade, with all the natural disasters that this would entail. A severe warning, taken up by the press around the world in order to raise public awareness on the issue.

In France, it was decided to go even further by banning advertisements for fossil fuels, ie petrol, diesel and other derivatives of extractive origin. A legal measure that is part of the “Climate & Resilience” package and that comes at the end of a review process that lasted several months. The entry into force of the law is expected for the middle of next year, while from 2028 it will also be forbidden to advertise the most polluting vehicles.

Cars with homologated CO2 emissions above 123 g / km could fall into this last category, the same ones that will no longer be able to be registered starting from January 1, 2030. With the rules contained in the “Climate & Resilience” package, it will also be mandatory indicate the environmental impact of the sponsored products in advertisements, with immediate application for the automotive and household appliances sectors.

Similar measures, however, could soon be resumed in other countries as well. Starting with England, where, a few days ago, the commercial of a sports car of a well-known German brand was withdrawn from the radio: in fact, the roar of the engine was used in advertising as an emotional element of the advertisement. A gimmick that, predictably, has sparked controversy about the opportunity to deliberately “outgass” in times of climate change.
