“The covid-19 pandemic has opened the door to a radical reform of the economy”, explains in the video Martin Sandbu of the Financial Times. Among the ways to rethink the economy is the introduction of universal basic income: a regular transfer of money by the state, to all and without alleys. It is different from the citizenship income introduced in Italy in 2019, because the latter is a form of subsidy for the unemployed or unemployed and not a real income aimed at the entire population.
The universal basic income could strengthen welfare, ensure greater security for the poorest and create opportunities for all. But critics, especially conservatives, are skeptical of its effectiveness and see it as a disincentive to work.
