Vaccinations, it is the day of the over 50s: interested in 140 thousand, it is one of the most consistent age groups in Fvg

UDINE. On Monday 10 May, at 8 am, the vaccination agendas officially open for all those between 50 and 59 years old, net of any pathologies or belonging to priority categories that may have allowed the 50-year-olds residing in Friuli Venezia Giulia to have already booked their first dose.

An overall audience of almost 200,000 people – although more than a quarter of them have already reserved the appointment in the previous weeks – which represents a real challenge, and one of the most important, for the Region.

After the difficulties recorded with the 70-year-olds and, above all, with the 60-year-olds, but also among the under-60s with chronic diseases, in fact, Friuli Venezia Giulia is now trying to change gear with an age group, the 50-year-olds, which not only equals to practically a sixth of the residents, but that is an integral part of the workforce in the region.

Booking numbers and methods

The figures in the hands of the Department of Health, and which are based on health cards, say that residents aged between 50 and 59 in Friuli Venezia Giulia are 198 thousand 475.

Of these, however, 54,000 587 have already booked the vaccination, 41,000 308 obtained the first dose and 17,000 535 also the booster.

The audience of new potential eligible holders from Monday morning at 8, therefore, is equal to 143 thousand 888 people.

The Region, initially, had decided to open the vaccination agendas, on Monday 10, to those between 59 and 55 years old and in the 50-54 range in seven days.

Faced, however, with the general approval of Commissioner Francesco Paolo Figliuolo and a non-exceptional adhesion of the other categories to the Health Department, they opted, last Friday, for the total go-ahead, effectively doubling the number of potential vaccinators.

It is therefore very likely that at least in the early hours of Monday morning, as has already happened for the over 80s and, albeit to a lesser extent, for the 70-year-olds, the system may be overloaded with requests.

The booking methods are now the usual ones, that is the Cups of the Health Authorities, the over three hundred pharmacies participating in the vaccination campaign, the regional call center, by calling 0434/223522, or the web app, inaugurated in mid-April, by connecting to the address internet https://vaccinazioni-anticovid19.sanita.fvg.it.

The other categories and vaccines

Vaccinations for 50-year-olds, being intended for people under 60, will be carried out with Pfizer or Moderna ampoules.

Furthermore, from Monday 10, all those who book, or carry out, a vaccine based on mRna technology will receive an appointment for the recall at 42 days in order – as indicated by the Ministry of Health – to be able to immunize as many people possible with at least one dose.

Be careful, however, because at the same time as the 50-year-olds, the Region always leaves the agendas open for the categories that are already authorized to reserve their appointment.

This is the complete list of those who have the right to book the vaccine – with the relative drug that will be inoculated – excluding the 50-year-olds: over 80 (Pfizer or Moderna), people with high frailty (Pfizer or Moderna), social and health personnel (Pfizer or Moderna), guests and staff of retirement homes (Pfizer or Moderna), disabled as defined by law 104 (Pfizer or Moderna), cohabitants of highly frail people over 60 (AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson), cohabitants of people highly frail people under 60 (Pfizer or Moderna), cohabitants and caregivers of disabled people as defined by law 104 over 60 (AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson), cohabitants and caregivers of disabled people as defined by law 104 under 60 (Pfizer or Moderna), age group 70-79 years (AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson), age group 60-69 years (AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson), first dose for essential categories over 60 years (AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson), first dose for the essential categories under 60 (Pfizer or Moderna), recall of essential categories with the first dose taken before the government’s stop (AstraZeneca), under 60 with chronic diseases (Pfizer or Moderna).

The current situation

The opening to 50-year-olds and the 42-day postponement of the recalls, added to the expected arrival of 264,000 new doses from Tuesday 11 to June 3, of which the vast majority of Pfizer, should allow – or at least hopefully so – Friuli Venezia Giulia to return to press the accelerator of vaccinations.

From Monday to Saturday in the Region about 45 thousand injections were carried out which led our territory to reach 26.1% of the population – including those under 16 who at the moment cannot be immunized – who were administered at least one dose and the 12.9% who made the recall. –
