Vaccines, boom in requests: Monday San Giovanni in tilt

Many young people joined Cirio’s appeal to access without a reservation. From 7 August, in Asl / To4, presence of pediatricians in five administration hubs

IVREA. A barrage of vaccine requests for the age group 12-19 years and on Monday morning many accompanied their children to the vaccination hub of San Giovanni, in Piazza Boves, following the indications of the President of the Region Alberto Cirio who, on Friday, had anticipated precisely that from 26 July also for the very young it would have been possible to obtain administration without any kind of reservation. There was no shortage of misunderstandings with the center which went into trouble because it was not organized to give this type of response.

In July, the cuts in the supply of vaccines also made themselves felt in the ASL / To4 (about 30 percent less) and in recent weeks only the second doses were basically administered, with a very low number of defections.

Access without reservation, it must be said, in some centers, is already there, but only for the over 60s and the numbers of those who have presented themselves are very low. Instead, on the very young, it was different. A boom. At the moment, only Pfizer can be administered to the 12-19 age group and the risk is, with self-presentation to the centers, that doses are not available. So what?

In all ASLs (and not just Turin 4) the unreserved overflow on Monday of the very young announced by the Region with little notice has caused concern for the organization of the next few days and it remains to be seen whether it is a phenomenon that will diminish or continue also in the coming weeks.

Vaccinations for 12-19 year olds had been scheduled for those booked in ASL / To4 (1,700 two days ago) starting from 7 August in five health care centers (one for each district) with the presence of free choice pediatricians who have massively joined the vaccination campaign and who yesterday attended an operational meeting. From 7 August, with the forecast of the arrival of a greater number of vaccines in Piedmont, the very young will be vaccinated with the presence , in fact, of a pediatrician.

The announcement by the Region last Friday and the opening, since Monday, to vaccinations without reservations has created organizational problems and companies are trying to respond. How? Clemente Ponzetti, ASL / To4 consultant for the coordination of the vaccination campaign, explains: “At this moment the centers can vaccinate with Pfizer whoever comes without a reservation based on the doses available, net of those who have an appointment for the second administration. Essentially, reservations and recalls are guaranteed, while the doses for free access are limited. Pediatricians will be in the vaccination centers of reference from 7 August and the administration will proceed. Until 7 August, those with special needs can contact the centers. If there are sufficient doses they will naturally be vaccinated. If, on the other hand, the vaccine doses are not available, they will still have the reservation ».

The month of August will be importantand for the vaccination of the very young in view of the reopening of schools in September. General Francesco Figliuolo also spoke on this point during his visit to Piedmont: «Our goal is to reach 80% immunized by September: we are at 56%, and I think it is a good result. Now we must continue without letting go. On the over 80s we are at 91%, this means having secured our roots. We are a little down on the over 60s, and I expect a boost in the 50-59 range ». Precisely to raise awareness among the over 60s, the ASL / To4 management sent twenty thousand letters to the unvaccinated inviting them to do so.
