Vaccini, from Basilicata to Bolzano here is where the coverage on the under 60s is further ahead

by admin

“Continue to beat the over 60 and the frail” is the invitation of the Commissioner for the Covid emergency Paolo Figliuolo reiterated to the Regions and combined with the other: avoid “getting caught up in propaganda, let’s say let’s do that category or that other”. A reminder in apparent contrast to what was established by Figliuolo himself last week, when he sent a letter to the Regions to give the green light to bookings from May 17 also for those born up to 1981, therefore the over 40s.

Targets and vaccines for young people

“This does not mean – however, the commissioner clarified – that from Monday (May 17, ed) we’re going to start vaccinating forty-year-olds, I should have a hidden supply of vials I can give. However, it means that, especially the large regions, they will be able to start planning, not to inoculate ». In reality, the administrations have also begun to concern younger population groups, outside the targets indicated by the commissioner’s vaccination plan. It happened in several Regions that organized special events (the so-called “open days”) both to dispose of unused doses of AstraZeneca, the product developed by the University of Oxford on which continues to be more distrustful than the other three authorized vaccines, and for avoid making too many appointments in August and in view of the holidays. The effects are already visible in some cases: Basilicata is the region with the highest percentage of vaccinated people (first dose) in the 40-49 and 30-year-old age group.

South Tyrol first among the 50 year olds

From Thursday 20 May South Tyrol opens vaccinations to everyone, aged 18 and over, in a series of “vax evenings” with Astrazeneca (a project which could be accompanied by the idea of assigning a “crown- pass “to go to the premises). In the Autonomous Province of Bolzano 51% of the population between 50 and 59 has already received a dose of the vaccine. This is the highest percentage (the national average is 30.2%). In second place is the other autonomous province of the region, Trento (46%), followed by Campania (46,7%) e Sicily (35.7%). The island, in particular, does not do as well if you look at the targets indicated by Figliuolo: it is next to last for the percentage of the population over 80 vaccinated with at least one dose, last in the 70-79 years range and remains far from the average even for the category 60-69 years. There Sicily has not yet covered the RSA guests with the first dose (13 regions are 100%). But on this audience the least efficient is precisely Bolzano: 30% have not yet received a dose. It is the worst Italian result.

In Basilicata the first dose is already at a quarter of the 40-year-olds

If you go down to the 40-49 age group it is the Basilicata (among the first to organize AstraDay) to climb the top of the list with 26% of people who received the first dose. On 17 and 18 May, the two-day administration of about 1,600 doses of Johnson and Johnson to over 40s was organized. Compared to the commissioner’s targets, the Region remains in line with the national average, even if it is late in the vaccination coverage of 60-year-olds and in that of RSA hosts (it is in the group of nine regions that has not yet reached 100% in the administration of the first dose). The Autonomous Province of Bolzano and, in third position, Umbria. However, the Region is at the same time last for the percentage of the population in their 60s vaccinated with at least one dose. In fact, with a clear delay compared to other regions, vaccinations for Umbrian citizens aged between 60 and 69 only started on 19 May.

Even in the 30-39 age group, Basilicata first

In the category of thirty-year-olds, Basilicata still has the most vaccinations (19% against an average of 14.9%) and Umbria rises to second position. Then there are Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia. The latter, however, is late in the priority range 70-79 years where only 66% received the first dose (worst result after Sicily) and in that of the 60-69 year-olds where it is third from last
