In the report on the Consumer’s price index of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) the city of Valledupar registers the highest annual variation in the country with 10.77% exceeding the national total by 2.6 percentage points.

Leonardo Trujillo Oyola, deputy director of DANE, explained that these data correspond to that accumulated since February 2023 until January 2024. Only in the month of January 2024, Inflation in Valledupar was 1.4%, the second highest percentage in the country.

This is largely due to the gradual increases in the price of regular gasoline, which went from an average value of $8,500 to $13,281 in the period measured by DANE, generating increases in the cost of transportation public and private.


The sector of restaurants and hotels also increased, by 14,71 %, the value of your services. Third is the category of leases and utilities household services such as electricity, water and gas, with a total of 13,27 %.

Only in electricity, the vallenatos have had to pay a 32 % plus, the seventh highest percentage in the country, which has triggered protests against the company Afinia, as in other cities in the Caribbean region.

For their part, the products and services related to education had a total variation of 11.50 percentApparently, the change of year influences, where supplies and the cost of tuition at private schools and universities tend to grow. On this occasion, food and beverages in the capital of Caesarea registered smaller increases than the rest of the spending divisions.
