Vandals in the oratory, smeared with paint on walls, bathrooms and furnishings: the complaint is triggered

CORDENONS. More vandalism in Cordenons. After those to the detriment of the sports hall in via Avellaneda in the sights of the usual unknowns, the oratory of the parish of Santa Maria Maggiore, a stone’s throw from Piazza Della Vittoria, ended.

On Sunday afternoon, while the oratory was open, vandals entered inside and smeared everywhere, walls, floors, materials and the furniture of most of the premises.

They did so using, and therefore squandering, the tempera colors used by the boys for the activities of the Grest, in progress in recent weeks.

A disarming and bitter spectacle the one in front of which volunteers and priests found themselves, starting with the parish priest, Don Angelo Grillo, who filed a complaint against unknown persons at the Cordenons carabinieri station.

The priest was forced to have the company in charge of cleaning and sanitizing the premises during the Grest already intervene on Sunday, whose operators worked until midnight to fix things and returned on Monday morning to finish the job.

It is an extraordinary expense that the parish will have to bear, while the damage caused by the vandals has not yet been quantified.

“There was no damage to the structure but practically ninety percent of the oratory was smeared, including the bathrooms, in which they tried to obstruct the bathroom fixtures by throwing material into them – underlines the parish priest -. Only the rooms where we keep material for Caritas were saved, because they were locked ».

Even more than words, the photos speak. There was color everywhere, but a color that, instead of bringing dirty joy, dirties the desire to do beautiful things and creates bitterness.

“It all happened while a group of animators and young people were rehearsing in a room of the oratory for the end of Grest party on Friday: between songs and music they did not notice any noise – observes the parish priest -. The chaplain was the first to find the stains ».

The hands they have smeared are unknown, but Don Angelo is certain that they belong to young people who do not attend the oratory. In any case, Don Grillo does not underestimate the gesture immediately.

«What success should make us adults reflect on what youth discomfort is today – he comments -. It is an enormous inconvenience, for which we are all co-responsible and which involves us adults, from the Church, to institutions, from the police, to families.

Gestures like these are the fruit of boredom and are cries for help that young people send us to tell us that we are leaving them alone. We must all do more and we must do it with networking ». –
