victims ask LCT and its financial partners to publish the two impact study reports – TOGOTOPNEWS- Reliable and constructive information in one click

The collective of people affected by coastal erosion demands the publication of two studies commissioned by the Lomé Container Terminal (LCT) company on the causes of coastal erosion east of the Port.

This collective, at a press conference on Saturday in Lomé, indicated that it filed a complaint against LCT with the donors who financed the project, among others, the World Bank, the ADB, FMO, DEG, PROPARCO in the face of the worsening of the effect of coastal erosion on communities located east of the LCT port.

The collective indicates that the latter, notably the CAO, the complaint mechanism of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), have asked LCT to carry out a study on the causes of coastal erosion.

» In 2019, a group of university experts composed of Professors ADIAHO, Ms. HOEDAKOR and others did this work and submitted the report to LCT. LCT did not agree with the conclusions of this report and commissioned another study in 2022,” explained Togbui Agbavi Koffi III.

However, the leader continues, the LCT does not want to publish these two reports. “The LCT company must publish the report of the 2022 study but also the study by Professor ADJAHO. For two years, the 2022 report has still not been published. Our desire is that these impact study reports be published so that we can identify responsibilities. If the responsibilities are attributed to LCT, we will ask for compensation from the people who lost their homes, their crops, their sources of income following the effects of coastal erosion. We believe that if the LCT company has nothing to reproach itself, it will publish these reports,” said Togbui Agbavi Koffi III.

The collective of victims of coastal erosion also informs public opinion that in the coming days the spokesperson for the collective of victims of coastal erosion currently in Washington will begin a hunger strike. It will be followed by certain leaders if nothing is done after a week.
