For his 100th birthday he had received thousands of greetings on Facebook. And he was a supporter of social media: “I use it to converse and I accept everyone’s ideas”
VITTORIO VENETO. Franco Gentile, known as the “social grandfather”, died at the age of 100. An intellectual, a very popular Facebook commentator, especially on political topics, he was highly esteemed for his grace and the lucidity of his arguments.
Per his 100th birthday in November the greeting contest was unleashed on social media.
“I use Facebook to converse with others and enrich my experience by accepting all ideas,” he wrote not so long ago. Gentile had moved from Genoa to Vittorio Veneto in 1961 to work at the employment office. Theater is one of his great passions.
Has been author of plays and unpublished short stories, including “I Minichi”, dedicated to the Sersalese family of their father’s origin. This morning, January 5th, the farewell in private form. He leaves his wife Ileana, his children Manuel and Stefano.
