The Volkswagen sport utility family is still expanding: the latest model to debut is the new Taigo, which combines the urban versatility given by its compact size with a sporty look that, especially due to the sinuous shape of the roof, winks to coupes. The construction platform is the same as the T-Cross, with which the Taigo also shares the engines.
4.26 meters long, the car takes up some stylistic cues from the new Golf, such as the horizontal LED light band that acts as a continuity solution for the optical groups, in turn with LED matrix (but to have them you have to pay a surcharge ). While at the rear the lights, incorporated into a dark molding, take inspiration from that of the T-Cross.
Inside, the setting is the same as already seen on Polo and Golf, with two screens that stand out at the apex of the dashboard and are dedicated to instrumentation – depending on the trim level, the display can reach 10.2 “- and infotelematics (up to 8 “), connected to the network and compatible with smartphones. While the trunk has a basic capacity of 438 liters. Four versions are available, Taigo, Life, Style and R-Line. The equipment can be expanded by opting for the panoramic roof, rims up to 18 ”, voice commands or the Beats audio system with 300 watts of power.
Under the bonnet the 3-cylinder turbofan with one liter of cubic volume offered in the 95 HP version with manual transmission and 110 HP with optional automatic transmission. At the top the four-cylinder turbo petrol 1.5-liter and 150 hp, combined exclusively with the 7-speed automatic transmission. No diesel.
Driving assistance systems include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, traffic sign recognition and side mirror blind spot monitoring. Equipment that can be implemented with adaptive cruise control and the automatic lane keeping system. The car will be built in Pamplona (Spain) and will arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of next year: it will be offered with front-wheel drive only at prices close to those of the T-Cross, which starts at just under 21,000 euros.
