Wang Yi talks about the six-point consensus reached at the “Belt and Road” high-level meeting on international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region

On June 23, 2021, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi presided over the “Belt and Road” high-level conference on international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

In his concluding remarks, Wang Yi said that today, we had discussions around building a “Belt and Road” partnership, jointly overcoming the pandemic, and promoting sustainable economic recovery. The meeting mainly reached six points of consensus:

First, we all positively evaluate the progress made in international cooperation on the “Belt and Road”, and look forward to building a closer partnership, linking the “Belt and Road” initiative with the development strategies and plans of all parties, and taking the road of unity, cooperation, interconnection, and common development. , To open up a better future.

Second, we believe that the pandemic is the most urgent challenge at the moment, and the international community must unite and cooperate to overcome the difficulties together. We are convinced that as long as the epidemic in one country persists, the world cannot be said to be safe; only when all countries and regions overcome the epidemic can the world completely emerge from the shadow of the epidemic.

Third, we all look forward to further strengthening international cooperation in vaccines and promoting the fair distribution of vaccines as a global public product in countries around the world. We oppose vaccine nationalism and support the efforts of the United Nations system to promote global immunization and improve the availability and affordability of vaccines globally, especially in developing countries.

Fourth, we all believe that the recovery of the world economy after the epidemic should be a green and sustainable recovery. The international cooperation of the “Belt and Road” should put green development in a more prominent position, and take the construction of a green silk road as a priority task. More cooperation highlights will be created in the fields of infrastructure, green energy, and green finance.

Fifth, we all hope that the post-epidemic world will be a world of interconnection and win-win cooperation, support the cross-border movement of goods and people, and support countries in continuing to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.

Sixth, we all believe that we must accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We are all supporters and practitioners of multilateralism advocated by the United Nations. Today’s meeting itself is a multilateral cooperation meeting, which embodies the spirit of multilateralism.
