[NTD, Beijing, April 15, 2022]On April 14, the official website of the Zhejiang Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection disclosed the details of the crime of Tao Chenghua, a provincial-level official. Including the inside story of being defrauded of tens of millions of yuan by “feng shui masters” in order to be promoted to the secretary of the municipal party committee.
Tao Chenghua was born in October 1963. He served as Deputy Secretary of Wuyi County Party Committee, Secretary of Disciplinary Committee, Secretary of Political and Legal Committee; Deputy Secretary of Jinhua Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of Political and Legal Committee; Party Secretary and Chairman of Jinhua CPPCC.
On April 14, 2022, the official website of the Zhejiang Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection published an article “Lost in “Feng Shui” and Sinking in Selfish Desires. The article disclosed the details of Tao Chenghua’s crimes, including “do not believe in organizing belief in Feng Shui, engaging in superstition activities” and so on.
The article disclosed that in 2018, Tao Chenghua, who saw that he was 55 years old, had an inflated desire for power and wanted to be the secretary of the municipal party committee.
At this time, someone revealed to him that there is a master who can adjust numerology and make people and officials run smoothly. After some matchmaking, Tao Chenghua met Zhu Moumou, a “feng shui master” in Beijing.
In September 2018, Tao Chenghua asked Zhu Moumou to arrange “legal services” for him in Huashan, praying for promotion. After some tossing, Tao Chenghua followed Zhu Moumou’s statement, brought the “five-grade official hat box” home and placed it at home, and put the wooden “liter” that Zhu Moumou sent to mean “promotion” at home.
At the beginning of 2019, Tao Chenghua invited Zhu Moumou to Jinhua’s home to “do things and change Feng Shui” in order to change his luck.
In the first half of 2019, Zhu Moumou lied to Tao Chenghua that he had a relationship in Beijing and could help him seek promotion, but he needed 20 million yuan (RMB, the same below) for expenses. Tao Chenghua proposed to Fang Moumou, a long-time friend and the actual controller of a real estate company in Jinhua, that he needed 20 million yuan to clear the relationship, and Fang Moumou expressed his willingness to contribute.
In September and October of the same year, according to Tao Chenghua’s instructions, Fang Moumou gave Zhu Moumou 4 million yuan and 6 million yuan in cash twice. After Fang Moumou paid the above 10 million yuan, he told Tao Chenghua that he would not pay the remaining amount and reminded him not to be deceived. However, Tao Chenghua did not listen to Fang Moumou’s advice.
In the second half of 2019, in order to be promoted as soon as possible, Tao Chenghua continued to ask Zhu Moumou to “help” to move his father’s grave, build a stone pavilion and stone pagoda at the new tomb, and do things to pray for smooth official transportation.
In 2020, Tao Chenghua, who heard that he was being investigated, asked Zhu Moumou to hold a “disaster elimination” ritual at his home in order to avoid investigation and punishment. But all this did not eliminate Tao Chenghua’s disaster.
On November 30, 2020, Tao Chenghua was placed on file for investigation on suspicion of “serious violation of discipline and law”. In May 2021, Tao Chenghua was double-expelled (expelled from the party and dismissed from public office).
On December 28, 2021, Tao Chenghua was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison and fined 2 million yuan; Tao Chenghua’s illegal gains were confiscated and turned over to the state treasury.
On the other hand, Tao Chenghua also served as the secretary of the Political and Legal Committee in Wuyi County and Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. During this period, he was included in the tracking list by the International Organization for Investigating the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) for participating in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
