Water crisis in Agrigento, from the Region ok to the use of a mini desalinator and the water of the Castle

Short and medium-term solutions to solve the water problems of the province of Agrigento, historically among the most exposed in the island to supply difficulties.

From the Crisis Table that was held today at the headquarters of the Regional Department of Water and Waste, in the presence of the Councilor for Energy and Public Utilities, Daniela Baglieri (in the photo), the General Manager, Calogero Foti, and all the subjects interested in the water distribution of the province of Agrigento, from Girgenti Acque, to Siciliacque, up to the Consortia that survive despite the stop of the Water Court.

According to Councilor Baglieri who called the Crisis Table – “regardless of the intervention of the former M5S deputy Michele Sodano”, as she herself explained – some solutions have been identified. Among these: the modernization of a module of the Porto Empedocle desalinator, capable of producing about 25-30 liters per second; the enhancement of the intake system of the Castello dam, capable of conveying 80 to 100 liters per second to the Santo Stefano di Quisquina water purifier and then to the Voltano system; the implementation of interventions aimed at eliminating leaks along the “Three Sources” system for the recovery of approximately 40 liters per second; the transfer of networks and plants to the Ati of Agrigento for a unitary management of the system. Finally, the Ati will verify the possible possibility of exploiting additional resources that can be quickly connected to the distribution system. For the Castello lake, an investment of 300,000 euros is needed to upgrade the water supply system, while for the Tre Sorgenti, for the first time the commissioner has announced that he is ready to deliver the water networks to the ATI.

«Today – explained the commissioner Daniela Baglieri – a survey was carried out with all the protagonists of the water system in the province of Agrigento, who have given their contribution for the resolution of numerous problems. The formalized options were screened with feasibility and efficiency criteria. I am sure that the commitments made will be respected responsibly for the good of the whole territory of Agrigento ».
