Water emergency, the Municipality of Udine closes the fountains and passes the anti-waste resolution: fines of up to 500 euros for offenders

UDINE. Prohibition of withdrawing water for watering gardens and lawns, with the exclusion of irrigation destined for new planting of trees, shrubs and public works. Prohibition of the withdrawal of water for washing courtyard areas and squares during the day, with the recommendation to reduce these activities and in any case carry them out after sunset, in order to avoid the evapotranspiration of water and facilitate its collection in the sewer system. Prohibition of the withdrawal of water for washing private vehicles, with the exception of that carried out by car wash systems and prohibition of filling ornamental fountains, garden tubs and swimming pools on private areas, with the warning that the water present can be conserved in the appropriately treated reservoir. Naturalistic fountains and ponds with the presence of fish fauna and flora are excluded from this limitation.

These are the limitations on the use of water provided for by the ordinance, immediately enforceable, issued by the Municipality of Udine in the face of the persistence of the water emergency in the Region.

Municipality of Udine which at the same time decided to temporarily close the public fountains. These are the plants located in piazzale XXVI Luglio, in piazza I Maggio, in via Gemona, in via Zugliano, in the garden of Palazzo Morpurgo, in the area of ​​the Cormor park, at the Loris Fortuna garden, at the Ricasoli garden, in Piazzetta Antonini , in the Giardino della Rimembranza, on the climb to the Colle del Castello and in the Giardino Pascoli.

The only one excluded from the limitations is the Giardino del Torso, whose internal recirculation fountain will continue to function and will house the fish of the Ricasoli Garden pond.

As for the irrigation system in Piazza I Maggio, which draws water from the nearby canal and which is put into operation in the summer, this year has not yet been activated and, as explained by the Municipality, “it is believed that any not put into operation does not cause any damage to the lawn, except for the inevitable yellowing, in a similar way to the other green areas of the city ».

Violations of the provisions of the new ordinance against water waste will be punished with an administrative fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros. Compliance with the ordinance will be guaranteed by the staff of the local police and civil protection, in charge of surveillance.
