“We are prisoners”. The wrath of the Italians blocked in the US by visa rules

NEW YORK – “Help, we are prisoners in America.” Yes, due to the travel ban instituted in the middle of the pandemic by Donald Trump and never abolished by his successor Joe Biden, thousands of Italian “expats” – people who live, work and pay taxes in the US – have not returned home for at least 16 months: the risk of being stuck there indefinitely, as has already happened to those who preferred to face the lockdown in Italy and since then have not been able to return to the US, with rare exceptions for certain visas.
