White foam in the Ledra, many calls to the fire brigade: maybe it was detergent

by admin

UDINE. On the evening of Tuesday 14 September there were several reports received by the provincial fire brigade command for the presence of a lot of foam inside the Ledra canal.

The residents called from via Martignacco and via Passons. The firefighters, who intervened on the spot, informed the Friuli plain land reclamation consortium.

The surveyor Giovanni Baldissera (of the Consortium), who intervened on the spot for an inspection, explains: “The white foam has crossed the city. The calls from citizens have been so many.

I was invited to the scene by the fire brigade. It seems that everything originated from the municipality of Martignacco but we are still verifying.

It was probably lather from some detergent or soap, but nothing toxic. Then the white foam dissolved. “

“There are no elements of danger for the fish fauna, and the situation will continue to be monitored”: the Friuli plain land reclamation consortium reassures the population about the presence of foam, of indefinite origin and odorless, sighted in the Ledra canal, reported to the institution already on Tuesday evening by the mayor of Martignacco Gianluca Casali, who had detected the problem in the Flaugnacco area.

At about 11 pm the foam, which then increased in volume due to the particular shape of the canals and the speed of the water, had crossed the city of Udine reaching Piazzale Cella. Many citizens called the firefighters who, after a discussion with the consortium staff arrived on the spot, did not consider taking any particular initiatives.

The Consortium carried out further checks on Wednesday 15, but there was no trace of the foam. In any case, the institution will continue its supervision both upstream and downstream. The event had no consequences, therefore, neither for the fish nor for the population.
