White night flop and then a cycling race: the shops in the center of Conegliano remained closed

CONEGLIANO. A “White Night Conegliano” turned off, lit here and there by the dance groups and artists who animated the center, which however remained semi-deserted on Friday evening. Just as the shop windows remained unlit, only a couple of shops selling children’s items had decided to stay open.

The bars worked, like on weekends, where young people animate the nightlife in the historic center. On the other hand, the city streets did not fill up, despite the spectacular choreography of dance schools, circus performances and singers.

The event represented another reason for clash between commercial operators and the municipal administration. The shopkeepers angry not so much for the traffic blocks, but for unshared choices and lack of dialogue, informed at the last of the “White Night”, have deserted. But even yesterday someone, knowing of the total closure of roads and parking lots, preferred to keep the business closed.

“We are closed due to the cycling race, open Monday”, the sign posted to a shop in Via Cavour. To highlight that it was not a protest, already on Friday it was Marzia Breda, vice president of Ascom Confcommercio, contact person for the shopkeepers of via Carducci, Corso Mazzini and Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Baby cyclists and families had to get up early on Saturday, to participate in the circuits of the very young national cycling meeting in Conegliano, after Friday’s races in Soligo. Especially since some have stayed far from Conegliano, from Castelfranco to almost Jesolo as explained by the municipal administration. Yesterday the city was colored with baby cyclists and it was a party for everyone.

“A city dedicated to sports, children and families” was the thought shared through social media by the councilor Claudia Brugioni and the mayor Fabio Chies. Next Friday, 1 July, to coincide with the start of the sales, Festalonga returns, which will also take place on the evenings of 8 and 15 July, with the organization of Conegliano in Cima.
