Works under the spans: the San Felice bridge towards the rehabilitation

Veneto Strade fixes the damaged reinforced concrete The first section is closed and it will be up again next year

IF I SAY. Once three spans have been placed on the Trichiana side, next year it will start again with the remaining five up to the Sedico side. Veneto Strade makes this known, summing up the rehabilitation works of the San Felice bridge started in spring.

Between 2004 and 2007 the bridge had already been affected by important consolidation works, with an investment of 16 million, with the widening of the carriageway by two meters.

But a decade later, especially from the Trichiana side, we noticed sections with crumbling concrete and visible reinforcement rods.

Veneto Strade therefore planned and started the construction site under the spans in spring. The restoration of the bridge was divided into two sections: the first on the Trichiana side, the second for the remaining spans towards Sedico.

“The works relating to the first section were carried out in the period between July and October”, explain Veneto Strade, “while the remaining five spans will be subject to intervention in the course of 2022”.

The work carried out concerned first of all the removal of the incoherent or detaching concrete parts. «The oxidized armor has been completely freed», they explain from the regional body, «eliminating the rust from the irons with hydro-washing and brushing. This was followed by the treatment of the reinforcing rods by applying anticorrosive products and the structural restoration of the concrete using one-component, shrinkage-compensated, normal-setting thixotropic mortar reinforced with inorganic fibers, with thicknesses from 1 to 5 cm per layer ».

Not only that: the “bandage” with carbon fibers of the arches, the pillars and the intrados of the slab of the road surface was done with a quartz dusting finish. One-component mortar with synthetic fibers was then applied to smooth the surfaces. At the end there was a coat of “acrylic primer” and waterproof paint.

«He completed the intervention», underlines Veneto Strade, «the arrangement of the deck drains through the remaking of the sheath of the drains and the construction of new gargoyles with PVC pipes». An accurate work, therefore, which once the winter has passed will be resumed for the other five bays.Stefano De Barba
