Xi Jinping and North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un exchanged congratulatory messages on the 60th anniversary of the signing of the China-North Korea Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance
On July 11, 2021, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the State Council, and Supreme Commander of the North Korean Armed Forces Congratulations.
In the congratulatory message, Xi Jinping pointed out that in 1961, the older generation of leaders of China and North Korea made the strategic decision to sign the “China-North Korea Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance” in order to consolidate the fighting friendship between the two peoples and promote the lasting friendship between the two peoples. Cooperation has laid an important political and legal foundation. Over the past 60 years, China and the DPRK have upheld the spirit of the treaty, firmly supported each other, and worked hand in hand to strengthen the fraternal traditional friendship between the two parties and two countries, promote the development of their respective socialist causes, and maintain regional and even world peace and stability.
Xi Jinping emphasized that in recent years, Comrade General Secretary and I have met many times to plan a blueprint for the development of relations between the two parties and the two countries, add the connotation of the era of China-DPRK friendship, and reach a series of important consensus. In today’s world, great changes unseen in a century are accelerating. I would like to strengthen strategic communication with Comrade General Secretary, grasp the direction of China-DPRK relations, lead the friendly cooperation between the two countries to a new level, and better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.
Xi Jinping emphasized that we solemnly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China not long ago. At present, the North Korean people are uniting as one to fully implement the eighth decision and deployment of the Workers’ Party of Korea. China firmly supports the DPRK in developing its economy and people’s livelihood and vigorously advancing the cause of socialist construction. I believe that under the leadership of Comrade General Secretary, the North Korean party and people will surely achieve new and greater achievements.
In his congratulatory message, Kim Jong Un stated that the signing of the “North Korea-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance” demonstrated to the world the firm will of the two parties, governments and peoples of the two countries to develop the long-term friendship between the two countries based on a solid legal foundation. Over the past 60 years, North Korea and China have supported and helped each other and have written a history of friendship that is worthy of pride. In recent years, in the face of the complex and volatile international situation, the comradely trust and fighting friendship between North Korea and China has deepened, and the relationship between the two sides has developed to a higher stage.
