A total of 100 officers and men of the Xinxiang Detachment of the Henan Armed Police Corps carried more than 5,000 sandbags to block the two most dangerous piping.

The “Communist Canal” is 192 kilometers in length and 80 to 100 meters wide. It was excavated in 1958 and was named after the three provinces of Henan, Hebei, and Shandong that “carried forward the spirit of communism.” In 2018, Henan Province invested 1.591 billion yuan in the treatment of the “Communist Canal” and the Wei River adjacent to it.

In February 2012, Henan News reported that the bridge was planned to open to traffic on April 1. Prior to this, there have been many reports on Henan TV that it will open to traffic.

The “Communist Bridge” is located in the north section of Heping Road, Xinxiang City. Construction started in September 1959 and completed in March 1960. It was identified as a dangerous bridge by the relevant authorities in August 2009 and was later demolished and reconstructed. The collapse occurred during the reconstruction period, and the official death toll announced by the private sector is controversial.

In August 2013, Phoenix Satellite TV’s “Clang Threesome” once commented on the collapse of the “Communist Bridge” in Xinxiang. Hong Kong writer Liang Wendao asked in the program: Why is it called “Communist Bridge”?

The program also said: In places like Hong Kong and Taipei, such names would not be used. Taipei’s name contains many words such as “benevolence and righteousness” and “benevolence”.
