ZERO BRANCO. Hundreds of people gathered on Tuesday afternoon in the central church of Zero Branco for the last farewell to Mattia Acquilin, the 24-year-old victim of a tragic car accident.

Opening the funeral rite, officiated by Don Marco Piovesan, former chaplain of the parish of Zero Branco, was the touching reading of a text by the Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran. At the end of the ceremony, the mother Valentina Vianello approached Mattia’s white coffin and offered a last caress before letting him go forever.

At her side, her husband Andrea Acquilin and the three younger brothers of Mattia Michele, Samuele and Filippo. Dozens and dozens of young people took part in the ceremony, crowding the nearby parish hall and churchyard as well as the church.

The mayor of Zero Branco, Luca Durighetto, was also present on behalf of the municipal administration. The untimely death of Acquilin aroused deep condolences in the entire Zerotina community who immediately expressed their closeness to the family.

The accident that was fatal to him took place on the night between Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd November. Coming home just before 2 am, he lost control of his Panda, in via Scandolara, at street number 8, first hitting a light pole and then a column of a railing. His condition immediately appeared very serious, the Suem health workers, in front of the weeping eyes of his friends, tried everything out.
