United women’s football team won the championship and 10 transport units each get 1 gold
On the evening of September 25th, in the adult group finals of the 14th National Games of Women’s Football, the Chinese women’s football team as the team’s team defeated the defending champion Shanghai team 1-0 and won the championship as hoped. After the game, after the United Team won the championship, the question of how to calculate the gold medal of the player’s delivery unit caused widespread concern from all walks of life. A reporter from Beijing Youth Daily verified and confirmed that according to the rules set by the tournament organizer, any local participating unit that sends players to the joint team, regardless of the number of players, can only win one gold medal.
Affected by the epidemic, the Tokyo Olympics was postponed this summer. At the same time, the 14th National Games still kicked off in September this year as scheduled. Under this circumstance, in order to support and encourage the transportation units of the national team players of various events to actively participate in the National Games, the sports management department finally decided to organize a “joint team” to participate in some events after communicating with the relevant sports event management center (industry association) Tournament. In addition to women’s football, a considerable number of events such as track and field, basketball, and hockey have also launched “joint teams.”
It is also taking into account that some participating units (provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government) have harmed their own competitive interests to a certain extent in order to support the joint team formation of various projects to transport athletes. After communication with the trade association, it was decided to appropriately “compensate” the relevant participating units on the issue of “medal distribution”. However, there seems to be a misunderstanding about how to allocate it.
Take the women’s adult team competition as an example. In the women’s football final of this group on the 25th, the United team with 5 Shanghai team players finally defeated the Shanghai team and won the championship. For this reason, some media or fans speculate that the competition management department may determine the number of gold medals to be distributed based on the number and proportion of players sent by each participating unit to the joint team. But this is not the case.
Regarding the calculation of the number of gold medals in the women’s football team, the competition management department treats all players equally. In other words, no matter how many players they send to the joint team, each unit will only win one gold medal.
The 22 women’s football team players were sent by 10 participating units, namely the sports management departments of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Hubei, and Guangdong. Among them, Jilin Province and Tianjin City did not participate in the competition at this stage. However, Wang Shanshan is from Tianjin, Zhong Xiudong and Luo Guiping are both from Guangdong Province, so the two National Games participating units also won a gold medal.
