According to the Beijing Major Projects Office, as of July 17, Beijing and the Yanqing Winter Olympics were responsible for the construction of 57 Winter Olympics projects, and 53 projects have been completed. The remaining 4 projects are scheduled to be completed in 2021. The renovation of the National Stadium “Bird’s Nest”, which is responsible for the opening and closing ceremonies, will be fully launched on July 4 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2021.
Going all out to prepare for the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics is one of the two major events in Beijing in 2021. According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Major Project Office, the 8 competition venues in Beijing and Yanqing have been fully completed by the end of 2020. The “two pavilions and one village” in the Yanqing competition area for the Winter Olympics were completed in mid-July, and the ecological restoration work was completed by the end of June. The design concept of “Mountain and Forest Venues, Ecological Winter Olympics” changed from a blueprint to reality, realizing the integration of the development of sports undertakings with the promotion of ecological civilization construction, making the first-class Winter Olympics facilities and the natural landscape of Xiaohai Tuo harmoniously blended.
At the same time, the eight competition venues completed in the two competition areas, transportation, water, electricity, communications and other supporting facilities meet the requirements of venue commissioning and test activities. The eight competition venues have passed all-round testing and inspection of competition activities.
Among the 9 non-competitive venues in Beijing and Yanqing competition areas, 7 have been completed. Among them, the Beijing Winter Olympic Village and the main media center of the National Convention Center Phase II were delivered in June 2021.
