Nonnoboi’s surgery is almost finished. It will be ready this month, then we will have to wait for the permissions to start the activity. “We hope to open by the end of February,” hopes Roberto Sardi, head of the Cameri association that operates in Kenya. After having built a kindergarten for about fifty children, half of whom orphans, a dormitory, a canteen with kitchen, a well for drinking water and a tailoring workshop, the Novara non-profit organization is now building a health care facility for the Kakamega community. The town of 3,000 inhabitants on the border with Uganda. Nonnoboi operates in a suburb 4 kilometers from the city center.

“In Kenya, treatment is paid for – explains Sardi -. Those who do not have the money for assistance are forced to stay at home, are ill and sometimes die without even knowing what they suffer from. Access to our facility will be free for all poor people. Those who are willing to contribute to the project, on the other hand, will be able to pay a fee. The idea is not to leave anyone behind ». The program, also developed with the contribution of the non-profit organization Avanguardia gastroenterologica, will be coordinated on site by Nonnoboi’s trusted manager. A local doctor hired with the funds raised by the association will be in charge of examining the patients. «It will be an expensive activity – Sardi predicts – but it doesn’t scare us. In recent years we have always managed to achieve the set goals thanks to the support of many people. And I hope in the spring to be able to return to Kenya after almost two years of being away due to the pandemic ».

On January 23 there will be the third edition of the Super cross, in collaboration with Bellirun, also in support of a family with a child suffering from a serious illness. The eighth «We run for Kenya» is scheduled for 13 March from Cameri’s Sport cube to the Ticino park.
